The Objective: Harmonizing well-being and functionality for patients, families, and caregivers

As part of a move to new facilities, Maison Sault-Saint-Louis aimed to create a serene and comforting space for end-of-life patients and their families. Designing a calm, bright, and nature-inspired environment was a priority for the organization. The space needed to be spacious to promote relaxation while ensuring family privacy, allowing them to spend precious moments in dignity and tranquility. Simultaneously, functionality and ergonomics were key criteria for caregivers to guarantee optimal working conditions. Lastly, the project sought to blend aesthetics and durability while optimizing the budget funded by donors.

The Solution: Creating living spaces that support both patient care quality and family comfort

To meet the project’s objectives, spaces were carefully designed to offer a harmonious and welcoming environment. The reception area, a true entry point, was custom-designed to provide a warm welcome and immediately put families at ease.

The common living room, furnished with comfortable Flint armchairs, offers a serene space for loved ones to recharge. The dining room, featuring friendly tables and a counter, provides a cherished area for meals and shared moments. The entire space also benefits from a choice of neutral colors, both in the furniture and the decor, which helps create a calming atmosphere.

In the patient rooms, every detail was thoughtfully considered to ensure comfort and practicality. For instance, the inclusion of a fireplace and refrigerator allows visitors to stay close to the patient in a friendly setting conducive to extended visits. Additionally, a day bed was installed to provide a rest area for visitors. Rooms also feature ample storage to meet the needs of patients and their guests. The layout was optimized to accommodate multiple visitors simultaneously while facilitating caregiver movement and interventions.

To maximize the durability of the seats and simplify their cleaning, a significant clearance space (1 3/8 inches) separates the backrest and the seat cushion. Furthermore, Crypton fabric with a waterproof barrier and antimicrobial protection was chosen for the armchairs in both rooms and common areas, ensuring a hygienic and easy-to-maintain environment.

Finally, the administrative spaces and conference room, equipped with functional and comfortable furniture, provide an ideal setting for meetings and daily management while meeting both practicality and elegance requirements. The entire layout, highlighted by neutral color choices, contributes to a calming and serene ambiance.
